Dear Friends of Breastfeed Durham,
As we welcome March, we are excited to celebrate the past, present, and future of lactation in Durham. In honor of Women’s History Month, we reflect on the rich and diverse history of lactation within our community—recognizing both the meaningful progress we’ve made and the important work that continues as we strive to create an equitable and supportive environment for all lactating families.
Breastfeed Durham is proud to honor the strong and resilient women whose contributions have shaped lactation practices across generations. From the legacy of Black wet nurses who were required to feed children other than their own during slavery to ongoing efforts to address systemic barriers, we remain committed to advancing inclusivity and equity in lactation care. This month, we invite you to celebrate our shared history, embrace the present, and join us in building a more connected and supportive future for every family in Durham.
Thank you for being a vital part of this work to empower and uplift lactating families. Your involvement makes a difference every day, and together we will continue to foster a community that values, respects, and supports every lactation journey.
With Gratitude,
Breastfeed Durham Team |

Support a Great Cause!
Cajun Sunday Brunch Fundraiser at Succotash
|
| |
|
Get ready to celebrate community, culture, and connection THIS SUNDAY!
Join us for a one-of-a-kind Cajun Brunch at Succotash in Durham on Sunday, March 8, 2026, with live music from 1:00–3:00 PM. This event blends Louisiana flavor, live music, and local love in support of Breastfeed Durham. Breastfeed Durham envisions a world where every family has the freedom to define their own infant feeding journey—and receives the support needed to reach their goals. We honor all methods of providing human milk: breastfeeding, chestfeeding, bottle-feeding, donor milk, and feeding through medical devices. While our work centers human milkfeeding, we also provide culturally respectful support for families who use formula, understanding that informed choice and systemic barriers must be acknowledged together.
Music & Meaning: Members of the local band, OYAYAs, will bring authentic Cajun music to the event! 100% of your donation will go directly to support Breastfeed Durham’s ongoing work supporting families, lactation spaces, and community care.
How It Works: Succotash will open their event space for this special afternoon, featuring order-off-the-menu dining and drinks. You can reserve a seat at the community tables in the back dining room to enjoy the live band and festivities. Be sure to specify that you’d like to sit in the back.
Dining Room: Consider coming as early as 12:30pm or as late as 2:30pm! Their online system is set up to take reservations at 15-minute intervals up to 2:30pm. The musicians will play from 1pm to 3pm with a short set break at 1:45pm.
Giving: At the center of each community table, you’ll find a QR code linking to our donation page. We greatly appreciate your donations in support of our mission. All proceeds go toward programs that make our community more welcoming and family-friendly.
Save the date, invite your friends, and join us for great food, great company, and a great cause! Don’t forget to reserve your seats well in advance! |
