As the first week of National Breastfeeding Month comes to a close, we wanted to take a moment to reflect on World Breastfeeding Week's theme of Closing the Gap. It is essential that no one is left behind, especially vulnerable lactating parents who may need additional support to reduce breastfeeding inequalities. This is crucial to keep in mind as we move into the next two weeks' NBM observances with a special focus on Indigenous Milk Medicine Week and AANHPI Breastfeeding Week.
In addition to closing the gap in breastfeeding support, we also need to focus on hurricane emergency preparedness, especially as Hurricane Debbie heads towards Durham. We know parents will have many questions, and we are here to help you navigate these challenging times.
From August 8-14, we honor the rich traditions and diverse experiences of Indigenous families with the theme "Mind. Body. Milk Medicine." Then, from August 15-21, we spotlight the unique breastfeeding practices and advocate for stronger support within Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander communities.
Join us in raising awareness, celebrating cultural traditions, and advocating for improved breastfeeding support systems. Together, let’s work towards a future where every family receives the care and resources they need to thrive.
As always, we are excited to share a lineup of events that highlight the importance of breastfeeding and support for all families. |
