In the spirit of celebrating June as Pride Month, we were thrilled to explore the intersectionality of the queer community, human milk feeding, the First Food Equity Movement, and Lactation Justice. Thank you to those who were able to join us in celebrating at the Queer Family Planning Health Fair!
On June 10, we are excited to have the unique opportunity to share some of our lessons learned at the National Breastfeeding Coalition & Convening in Bethesda, MD. It is an honor and a privilege to have our cofounder, Love Anderson, share some of her lessons learned. As summer approaches, we are also excited to hear your lessons learned. Please share with us how you're planning to celebrate National Breastfeeding Month, support human milk feeding families, and recharge as lactation advocates within your community. Together, we can create a more inclusive and equitable future for all families.
This month especially, we hope that everyone in our community will take time to think about the importance of creating inclusive spaces where the unique experiences of queer families can be acknowledged and supported. As an organization, Breastfeed Durham has taken the time to dive deep into understanding the challenges and triumphs of the queer family experience. This exploration has allowed us to gain valuable insights that we can apply to various aspects of our work, from supporting induced lactation and adoption to using inclusive language. We firmly believe that the path towards achieving health equity in our community lies within intentional conversations and giving voice to historically unheard narratives. |
