Today, on Juneteenth, we celebrate and uplift the unwavering strength of Black families, Black mothers, and Black babies and recognize the historical and ongoing nourishment that the Black community has provided to our country, our state and our city. This momentous occasion commemorates the emancipation of our enslaved ancestors, shining a light on the paramount values of freedom, equality, and social justice. When we reflect on lactation justice within this context, we honor the unique trials faced by Black lactating individuals and applaud the ingenious ways our families have sought and nurtured well-being. |
