The Durham Digest
Breastfeed Durham
August 2023

We have done amazing work this year and it is time to celebrate the 13th Annual National Breastfeeding Month! What fuels your drive to support families in Durham?  The 2023 National Breastfeeding Month theme is This is Our Why. This year, the conversation is centered on why babies and families need our support and why this work is so important.

As we celebrate National Breastfeeding Month and World Breastfeeding Week, we would love for you to share widely about the PUMP Act with your friends, communities, and contacts. Those who work outside of the lactation field may be completely unfamiliar with the passage of the PUMP Act! The PUMP Act requires employers to provide reasonable break time for nursing employees to express breast milk and a proper place to pump at work (other than a bathroom). These accommodations must be provided and available for one year after the child’s birth. Share this USBC explainer or see our blog post for more details.
