Breastfeed Durham
The Durham Digest (Mid-August 2021)

As we enter into the last two weeks of National Breastfeeding Month, Breastfeed Durham celebrates. Our vision is to realize infant feeding equity for all in Durham through our mission to advocate for policies and practices that support breastfeeding, chestfeeding, and human milk feeding. Our goal is that all families will be fully informed, supported, and empowered to make infant feeding choices that they feel are safe, healthy, and appropriate for their lives. This requires education, resources, and support for all expectant parents and families. It requires supportive workplaces and employers. It requires the support of healthcare providers. It requires the support of local government and agencies, education, and faith-based communities. It requires that we understand, acknowledge, and work to dissolve the historical and societal barriers to equitable access in healthcare, and in particular disparities in maternal health, in order that future generations can have the true freedom to make those choices with the full support of a community rooted in justice, respect, and self-determination for all. This is our shared responsibility for our children and their health.
