As a month of reflection for Breastfeed Durham comes to end, we are excited to read the new American Academy of Pediatrics Policy Statement on breastfeeding and the use of human milk Policy Statement: Breastfeeding and the Use of Human Milk. Yet, we know that in order for this recommendation to fully be implemented, it must be paired with support such as:

We at Breastfeed Durham also continue to frame our thinking within the historical, psychosocial and cultural context of breastfeeding. We know that successful breastfeeding begins with being informed during pregnancy. Yet, disparities persist. We want to share a few updates from the NC Maternal Mortality Review Committee.

  • Thursday, August 4 | 11:15 -12 PM: LGBTQ+ Human Mild Feeding Community Meeting hosted by Breastfeed Durham
  • Friday, August 5 | 10-12 PM: An Act of Advocacy hosted by Breastfeed Durham at The Village Shipping Center, 1001 N Miami Blvd, Durham, NC 27703. Help us go door-to-door as we reach out to our favorite locally owned businesses or locally led community organizations as we encourage them to apply to become a breastfeeding-friendly community partner.
