Job Opportunity: Project Coordinator for Black Breastfeeding Coalition

Breastfeed Durham is currently seeking a Project Coordinator to lead our Black Breastfeeding Coalition. This is a volunteer opportunity that will transition into a paid position within 2-3 months.  We are offering a chance to make a meaningful impact in our community by promoting and supporting Black families in their human milk feeding  journey.

The ideal candidate will be a detail-oriented and dedicated individual who is passionate about working with the Durham community. We are looking for someone who has professional or lived experience in project management, the field of maternal and child health, and/or lactation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and oversee the implementation of project plans to promote and support the Black Breastfeeding Coalition
  • Maintain and monitor project plans, schedules, finances and expenditures.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with community partners and stakeholders
  • Organize, attend and lead meetings with project team members, partners, and stakeholders
  • Document and follow up on important actions and decisions from meetings.
  • Ensure that project goals and objectives are met within the established timeline and budget
  • Develop and Implement a project evaluation plan to measure project outcomes and impacts
  • Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation, plans and reports.

Qualifications and skills:

  • At least 1 year of lived or professional experience in project management, particularly in the field of maternal and child health and breastfeeding
  • Strong organizational skills, including multitasking and time management.  
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations 
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong working knowledge of G Suite
  • An ability to prepare schedules and step-by-step action plans
  • Exceptional verbal and written skills. 
  • Passion for promoting health equity and addressing social determinants of health
  • Familiarity with Durham community resources and support services for Black parents and children
  • Understanding of the challenges faced by Black families in their breastfeeding journey

This volunteer position is a part-time commitment, with flexible hours and the opportunity to work primarily remotely. It is a great opportunity to gain experience in project management, community outreach, and maternal and child health.  We expect this position to transition into a paid position within 2 to 3 months. Compensation rate $15-$25 per hour 5-20 hours per week.
