Content Updates
- Continued breastfeeding – the language about breastfeeding duration is in line with the American Academy of Pediatrics 2022 revision of their recommendation for how long to breastfeed. The AAP is now in line with what the World Health Organization has always recommended (2 years or beyond as mutually desired).
- Vaping and tobacco – CGBI collaborated with the North Carolina Division of Public Health to update the smoking-related content to include vaping and a new 24/7 text line for confidential coaching and support around quitting.
- Maternal mental health – this content has been enhanced and expanded, and also includes the new 24/7 Maternal Mental Health Hotline from the federal government (HRSA) available in Spanish or English.
- Safety during rooming-in – added content encourages parents to expect sleepiness and fatigue and plan for asking for support when rest or sleep is needed. This addition is in-line with recommended parent education from Baby-Friendly.
- Safety when combining sleeping and breastfeeding at home – new content helps parents prioritize actions that reduce the risk of sleep-related infant death. This addition is in-line with recommended parent education from Baby-Friendly.
- Health literacy and inclusive language – we utilized the AHRQ Health Literacy Toolkit Plain Language Guide and the NACCHO Inclusive Language Toolkit to make improvements for readability and accessibility. The Ready Set Baby parent booklet remains at the 6th grade reading level via the Flesch-Kincaid readability test.
