A Heartwarming Story of Confidence and Support: Breastfeeding Welcome Here Signs in Durham

At Breastfeed Durham, we’re excited to share a heartwarming moment from our community, made possible by our new Breastfeeding Welcome Here signs, in partnership with a local artist and Durham Parks and Recreation.

One of our community members recently shared her beautiful experience while out for a walk with her seven-week-old daughter. As her daughter began to fuss and show signs of hunger, the mother hesitated—unsure about breastfeeding in public. She considered heading home to nurse, but then she spotted one of our new signs at Indian Trail Park. That small symbol of support gave her the confidence to go ahead and feed her daughter right there in the park, extending their walk and boosting both her physical and mental health as a new mom.

The positive impact of these signs is already being felt! They’re not just about creating spaces for breastfeeding; they’re about fostering a community where all families feel supported and empowered. We’re so grateful for the opportunity to make a difference, and we’re thrilled to know that these signs are helping families like this one feel confident and at ease in public spaces.

Thank you for supporting our mission, and to everyone who helped bring this project to life. Together, we’re making Durham a more welcoming place for all families.
