Breastfeed Durham is thrilled to announce an exciting new milestone in our mission to create a welcoming environment for all chest/breastfeeding families. As part of Step 2 of the Ten Steps to a Breastfeeding Family Friendly Community, our brand-new Breastfeeding Welcome Here postcards are now available at the Discover Durham Visitor Info Center!
This achievement is a testament to our community’s commitment to inclusivity and family support. With this milestone, we have officially passed two of the Ten Steps to a Breastfeeding Family Friendly Community! This is a significant accomplishment, reinforcing Durham’s leadership in supporting families and ensuring parents feel welcomed wherever they go.
Why This Matters
Durham Takes Another Step Toward a Breastfeeding Family Friendly Community
Breastfeeding is protected under both state and federal law, allowing parents to feed their babies wherever they are legally allowed to be. However, we know that visibility and clear messaging make a difference in fostering truly inclusive spaces. Our new postcards serve as both a practical resource and a visible commitment to supporting chest/breastfeeding families in Durham.
What’s Available at the Visitor Center?
We have designed two types of postcards to ensure that families, tourists, and community members can access this important information:
- Breastfeeding Welcome Here Stickers on a Postcard – A great keepsake for visitors, especially grandparents who love sending something special back home. This card proudly displays our Breastfeeding Welcome Here sticker, reinforcing Durham’s commitment to inclusivity.

- Guide to Breastfeeding-Friendly Businesses in Durham – This postcard features a QR code linking to a directory of local breastfeeding-friendly restaurants, businesses, and public spaces, making it easier than ever to find supportive locations while exploring our city.

Durham’s Ongoing Commitment
Our community-wide efforts continue to expand, with key initiatives including:
- 36 city parks featuring Breastfeeding Welcome Here signs.
- Over 200 businesses displaying Breastfeeding Welcome Here window clings and integrating breastfeeding-friendly messaging into their websites.
- Annual training for law enforcement and first responders to ensure they understand and uphold North Carolina breastfeeding laws.
