I am worried right now. Imagine if you or someone you loved or your surrogate were pregnant right now. Imagine going to the hospital to birth as a non-cisgendered individual in the midst of this pandemic. Would you be scared? Would you have unanswered questions? Would you have support?
At our meeting today a doctor asked for resources for Human Milk Feeding LGBTQ+ Families. I get this question at least every 6 months, and I always feel ill-equipped to answer it. So often the resources that I find involve groups that are no longer meeting or providers that have change jobs.
Breastfeeding Family Friendly Communities of Durham formed a Committee to work on LGBTQ Plus Human Milk Do you know of anyone else who is interested in advocating for the North Carolina and/or the Durham LGBTQ+ Human Milk Feeding Community?
Our goal at Breastfeeding Family Friendly Communities is to support all families in our community during this unprecedented and stressful time. Breastfeeding Family Friendly Communities of Durham is a health equity advocacy group. It is our hope that every family in Durham understands the benefits of human milk feeding, and then makes educated and informed decisions that are right for each family. We celebrate every amount of human milk whether received by breast/chest, given by bottle, or provided by another method. We believe that all families should have access to affordable human milk. Though our focus is breast/chest/human milk feeding, Breastfeeding Family Friendly Communities strives to support all Durham families, including families that use formula (whether planned or not planned). We know that information and recommendations are changing rapidly and it can be difficult to find needed resources.
Send us your Durham recommended resources for Human Milk Feeding LGBTQ+ Families or LGBTQ+ Health Organizations with services for new parents in Durham. Any information that you could provide would be helpful.
