Duke University Health System Celebrates National Breastfeeding Month in Style!

National Breastfeeding Month was met with spirited celebration at Duke University Health System. Not only did the staff proudly sport special breastfeeding shirts, but Duke Regional Hospital also shined with its new Baby-Friendly Hospital® designation. Join us at Breastfeed Durham as we delve into the festive details and the community’s unwavering support for breastfeeding families!

First and foremost, we want to give a big shoutout to Duke Regional Hospital for recently receiving the esteemed designation of a ‘Baby Friendly Hospital’. This recognition is a testament to their commitment to supporting breastfeeding families and offering them the optimal level of care. A Baby-Friendly designation is not just a title—it means that the hospital has put in hard work, dedication, and training to ensure they provide an environment conducive to successful breastfeeding.

But that’s not all. To further display their support for breastfeeding, the staff at Duke University Health System adorned special breastfeeding shirts throughout National Breastfeeding Month. While they didn’t capture an official group photo, Jennifer Fore, RN, IBCLC, from Duke mentioned the possibility of having one of the staff model the shirt for a photo. That’s dedication!

It’s truly heartwarming to see such enthusiasm and commitment to breastfeeding from major institutions. At a time when many new parents often feel overwhelmed or unsupported in their breastfeeding journey, it’s incredible to see an entire health system come together to celebrate and endorse it.

Our gratitude extends to everyone involved in organizing these initiatives, especially Jennifer Fore, Dewonna Ferguson, Dr. Annie Dotson, and Jacqueline Lawdley. Your efforts not only create awareness but also foster a community where breastfeeding is normalized and cherished.

To all the breastfeeding families out there, know that you are supported, and there’s a whole community here in Durham standing behind you. We, at Breastfeed Durham, along our fellow advocates at Duke University Health System, are dedicated to ensuring that every family feels empowered and confident in their breastfeeding journey.
