Queer Family Planning Health Fair 2024
Event will be held rain or shine. Workshops will take place in doors.
About the Event:
Hosted by Breastfeed Durham’s LGBTQ+ Committee and sponsored by MAAME, Inc., Rainbow Collective for Change, LGBTQ Center of Durham, & Family Care, PA, the Queer Family Planning Health Fair is dedicated to educating and supporting LGBTQ+ family planning and human milk feeding. We are looking to collaborate with local organizations to enhance this event’s impact.
Event Features:
- Diverse Representation: Engage with representatives from queer-affirming fertility spaces, LGBTQ+ family law offices, medical and lactation specialists, sperm banks, birth workers for queer families, human milk donation resources, and queer-supportive adoption agencies.
- Interactive Sessions: Panel discussions, information booths, public Q&A, and community-building activities.
- 2:00 PM – Working with a Fertility Clinic Dr. Breanna Beard & Melony Thorpe-Congleton of Duke Fertility
- 2:45 PM – Becoming a Foster Family: Deborah Cousin & Monique Smith of Durham County DSS-Foster Care
- 3:30 PM – Body Feeding & Induced Lactation: Dr. Elaina Lee of Family Care, PA & Amber Crews, La Leche League & Breastfeed Durham’s LGBTQ+ Committee Chair
- 4:15 PM – Queer Family Law: Jennifer Tharrington of Village Law
- Networking: An excellent opportunity for the Triangle’s queer community to connect, learn, and support each other.
