Durham County Department of Public Health is excited to announce we’ve initiated partnership with Breastfeed Durham for the provision of the Improving Community Outcomes for Maternal and Child Health (ICO4MCH) initiative.
Funded by the North Carolina Division of Public Health, this initiative is intended to improve birth outcomes, reduce infant mortality, and improve the health status of children ages birth to five. To address the complex challenges of improving the health of women of childbearing age and children ages birth to five, Durham County stakeholders have chosen several evidence-based strategies including the 10 Successful Steps for Breastfeeding, with a specific focus on Step 3 and Step 10.
Together Durham County Department of Public Health and Breastfeed Durham will work collectively to promote breastfeeding as a normal physiologic process while supporting the breastfeeding dyad. We are committed to embedding lactation support into the fabric of the health department.
