New Breastfeeding Medicine and Lactation Service Line Launching at Duke Family Medicine Center
Duke Family Medicine Center provides prenatal care (through group classes called Centering Pregnancy and individual care) in addition to serving the whole family as a primary care practice. In August, the clinic launched a new breastfeeding medicine and lactation service line which will include prenatal consults for women who might be concerned about breastfeeding or have had issues in the past, and also breastfeeding consults postpartum, including frenotomies for tongue ties. Services will be provided by an IBCLC certified OB nurse, and an IBCLC certified provider. This provider is also one of two providers at Duke Family Medicine who also deliver babies at Duke Regional Hospital and sees many of the prenatal patients throughout their pregnancy. Initially, services will be offered only to Duke Family Medicine patients and any Duke employee. Eventually, they hope to expand these services to the broader community. Duke Family Medicine Center is accepting new patients and accepts Medicaid and Medicaid pending.
