Reflecting on a Night of Celebration, Change, and Connection

As we look back on an extraordinary evening that brought our community together, it’s hard not to feel overwhelmed with gratitude. Our recent gala was not just an event; it was a manifestation of six years of growth, dedication, and the collective spirit of support that defines Breastfeed Durham. It was a night of celebration, change, and connection that highlighted how far we’ve come and where we’re headed together.

The evening kicked off with an opening workshop that was nothing short of inspirational. It provided a unique platform for sharing and engaging with community members we had never connected with before. This workshop wasn’t just about imparting knowledge; it was about weaving a richer tapestry of community engagement, emphasizing how each one of us plays a vital role in achieving first food equity in Durham. The energy and passion in the room were palpable, a testament to our shared commitment to this cause.

As we transitioned into the social hour, the ambiance was magical, with rainbows cascading overhead, symbolizing the diversity and beauty of our mission. It was a time to meet new friends, welcome new faces, and strengthen bonds with long-time supporters. The conversations that flourished under this vibrant backdrop were filled with stories of support, challenges overcome, and shared visions for the future.

One of the evening’s greatest successes was the celebration of our new Community Partners and Breastfeeding-Friendly Employers. The enthusiasm and commitment of these new allies in our mission were truly the highlight of the night. Their onboarding marks a significant step forward in making Durham even more breastfeeding-friendly and inclusive.

Moreover, the endorsement of our “Breastfeeding Welcome Here” signs by a prominent Breastfeeding advocate from the American Academy of Pediatrics North Carolina chapter was a milestone moment. Learning that healthcare providers across the country are interested in displaying these signs in their facilities is a powerful acknowledgment of the importance of our work. It’s a recognition that extends beyond our local community, echoing the national and even global relevance of our advocacy.

Following the silent auction, which featured an array of items that reflected the diversity and generosity of our community, the outpouring of donations continued. This wave of support underscores the deep-rooted desire within our community to be part of this incredible journey. Each contribution, big or small, fuels our mission and enables us to make a tangible difference in the lives of families navigating the challenges of breastfeeding.

As we reflect on this night of celebration, change, and connection, it’s clear that we must do this again next year. The gala was a vivid reminder of the strength and love that fuels Breastfeed Durham. It was a night that not only celebrated our past achievements but also set the stage for the impactful work that lies ahead.

Thank you to each and every one of you for your unwavering support, dedication, and belief in our mission. Together, we are nurturing a healthier, more supportive community for all families in Durham. Here’s to many more years of growth, achievements, and shared successes.
