Free Emergency Child Care for Durham Families

Most emergencies are small. A house fire, a job loss, a medical emergency. They don’t make the news, but they turn a family’s week upside down, and someone still has to care for the kids.

The National Emergency Child Care Network provides free emergency child care for any family in a disaster or a personal crisis. Fill out their form online and trained volunteers come to you, at home or wherever your family needs them.

We learned about them from a Family Connects nurse after our SAFE Infant Feeding in Micro-Emergencies training for Durham home visitors in September. They now sit alongside the rest of our family emergency resources: how to feed your baby safely when the power or water goes out, an emergency kit checklist, and Durham County alerts.

Find it all at safeinfantfeeding.org/durham, or any time under Parents & Family in our menu. One-page printable handouts are there in English and Spanish.
