For many parents and caregivers, participating in elections and civic life can come with an unexpected challenge: finding and paying for childcare. Politisit, a nonpartisan nonprofit, is working to remove that barrier.
The program began in 2020 and has continued to expand, including free drop-in childcare sites and reimbursement options. Politisit’s approach is straightforward. Local organizations can partner with the nonprofit to provide childcare, report the services provided, and receive reimbursement for eligible costs. The program is available for federal, state, and local elections.
But Politisit’s work extends beyond Election Day. The organization also supports parents who want to participate in civic activities such as attending school board meetings, speaking with elected representatives, receiving civic engagement training, or testifying before legislatures. Its broader goal is to make civic participation more accessible to families.At its heart, Politisit addresses a practical problem with a practical solution: when childcare costs or availability stand in the way of participation, providing support can help make civic life more accessible to parents and caregivers.
