Starting on December 1st, the Durham County Department of Social Services began taking applications for the Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP). LIEAP is a federally-funded program that provides a one-time vendor payment to help eligible households to pay their heating bills. Eligible applicants include individuals aged 60+, persons who have disabilities and who receive Food and Nutrition Services. Call 919-560-8192 to set up a virtual appointment.
Households including a person aged 60 or older or an individual receiving disability benefits and services through the NC Division of Aging and Adult Services are eligible to sign up for assistance from Dec. 1 – 31. All other households may apply from Jan. 1 – March 31, or until funds are exhausted.
On January 3, 2024, all Durham residents may apply online for LIEAP at https://epass.nc.gov. Paper applications can also be picked up at the Department of Social Services – 414 East Main Street.
LIEAP ends on March 31, 2024.
