Dear Colleagues –
At NPA, we believe that everyone has the right to high-quality, respectful perinatal care. But the last year of the pandemic has reminded us that the U.S. healthcare system fails to deliver on the promise of health equity. To re-imagine a healthcare system that is fair, just, equitable, and accessible to all, we must examine our biases, interrogate broken systems, and explore new ways of delivering care. This year’s conference, Perinatal Care at the Intersection of Health Equity and Social Justice, will be an opportunity for each of us to recommit to this fundamental belief—that every pregnancy, every baby, and every parentdeserves equitable, trauma-informed, family-centered care. We invite you to JOIN US.At the National Perinatal Association (NPA), we believe that everyone has the right to high-quality, respectful perinatal care. But the last year of the pandemic has reminded us that the U.S. healthcare system fails to deliver on the promise of health equity. While standards of care have improved for some, they remain disparate for those of us who are: BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color); LGBTQIA+; pregnant or parenting with disabilities; working and parenting; poor, uninsured, and underinsured; living in rural and urban “Health Care Deserts”; living in carceral or institutional settings; or who are otherwise marginalized.
To re-imagine a healthcare system that is fair, just, equitable, and accessible to all, we must examine our biases, interrogate broken systems, and explore new ways of delivering care.
