Starting a postpartum doula business that nurtures families in the early weeks and months after birth is my passion, and I’m thrilled to announce my new business name, Nurtured by Emily. As an experienced certified Postpartum Doula and a mom, I’ve seen firsthand how support during those early days with a newborn can make all the difference. My journey into motherhood came with challenges, and I hope that sharing a bit of my story encourages other families to reach out when they need help.
My Breastfeeding Journey
Like many new moms, I envisioned a smooth start to breastfeeding my daughter. But after an emergency surgery and a six-week stay in the NICU, things took a different turn. Being separated from my daughter while trying to establish a milk supply post-surgery was incredibly difficult. My journey was filled with unexpected hurdles, and it led me to seek out every bit of support I could find. After three months of persistence and many tears, we finally established a beautiful breastfeeding journey.
I’ll never forget those challenging moments—from struggling to establish a supply, pumping in a storage closet at work or an airport bathroom, to managing an oversupply. These experiences gave me a deep understanding of the unique support new parents need. I’m grateful to partner with organizations like Breastfeed Durham, which smooth the path for families with access to resources and compassionate support.
Nurtured by Emily: Compassionate Care for Families in Durham, Chapel Hill, North Raleigh, and Hillsborough
My goal with Nurtured by Emily is to provide the nurturing support I once sought. Though my business has a new name, for nearly four years I’ve offered compassionate care tailored to each family’s needs, including physical and emotional support, feeding guidance, and helpful resources for those early days. For parents facing breastfeeding struggles, I bring evidence-based support and compassionate understanding, and when needed, I can connect families with a trusted network of expert resources.
A New Chapter in Postpartum Support
Whether you’re preparing to welcome a new baby or are already in the newborn days, Nurtured by Emily is here to help in those early weeks and months. My work with families includes assisting with the physical needs of new moms, newborns, and their families, while also offering guidance, listening, and understanding every step of the way. Starting this business and supporting so many diverse families over the years is close to my heart, and I hope Nurtured by Emily can be a source of comfort, support, and empowerment for families across Durham and the surrounding areas.
