Welcoming New Community Health Worker

I am extremely excited to introduce Andrea Chicas, our new community health worker! Andrea was born in New York but moved to Charlotte, North Carolina at an early age where she was raised. Andrea graduated from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte where she studied Public Health. As a native Spanish speaking,  first-generation college student, Andrea learned to navigate and overcome unique barriers driving her passion to narrow language barriers while educating the community on topics that are dearest to her… maternal and child health.

With ICO4MCH, Andrea will serve as a community health worker focusing on reproductive life planning, reproductive justice, and breastfeeding support. Her first week with the initiative, she’s already started her Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC) course! Way to go Andrea!!

If you’re interested in having Andrea provide education to your community, workplace or event feel free to reach her at achicas@dconc.gov or by phone at 919-560-7839.

In her spare time Andrea enjoys traveling, practicing yoga and cooking. Again, welcome Andrea!
