Breastfeed Durham is excited to highlight the incredible work of Family Matters Durham, an initiative under the Improving Community Outcomes for Maternal and Child Health (ICO4MCH) program. This project is transforming breastfeeding support in our community by ensuring that every family has access to the resources they need to meet their infant feeding goals.
Through Family Matters Durham, local partners—including Breastfeed Durham, MAAME, and Family Connects Durham—are working together to:
- Expand access to breastfeeding education and peer support
- Strengthen the Community Action Team (CAT) to connect families with lactation resources
- Implement the Durham County Human Milk Feeding Strategic Plan to normalize breastfeeding
- Increase outreach in Durham ZIP codes with the highest infant mortality rates, rebuilding trust and engagement
This collective effort is creating a healthier future for Durham families by addressing health disparities and ensuring breastfeeding is recognized as a community-supported practice.
